Riders of the wheel. Racers, Roadies, Mountain bikers, Touring cyclists, Commuters, and others. Diamond frames, recumbents, trikes, and more. Sharing a web of connections often misunderstood or unappreciated by those who don't ride. Herewith, my attempt to share some of the more rational thoughts that flit around inside my head while bicycling, knocking back a brew or three, or just thinking about life. Reviews of bicycles, gear, touring, and more, plus some unsolicited posts about people, politics, and philosophy. Other things, too. Me: retired, gave up my TV in 1988, avid cyclist, several cross country tours completed with more to come. Your thoughts?

Spring in New Mexico...

Well, it was sunny today and cold.  Didn't warm up until after 3pm.  Yes, it's New Mexico in the mountains.  Will be back on the bike again tomorrow....and back up in the mountains.  Gila Hike & Bike got my road bike, Vitus...circa 1985...upgraded with the new Shimano Ultegra groupo..excellent components and they work so well.  I picked it up yesterday and tried it out.  Very sweet stuff.  Now, if I could only ride as fast as the newly equipped bicycle looks!

Today, I spent time in the shed getting my camping equipment out.  Still have more to get but the stuff that I found is in good condition and workable.  Once I get everything in one place, I will start to pack the panniers to see where the stuff fits, how it all fits together and how much fits in the panniers without weighing too much.

Once I have that done, I will begin to bicycle with gear.  At first, I will ride to places for the day without gear, have Eileen bring our gear and meet me so we can camp out.  Each week, I will carry more and more gear until I am carrying the total weight/gear that I will take with me.  This will give me time to sort out what I want/need/can carry.  When I get to that point, all Eileen has to do is bring the beer and snacks...!
