Cycling Along The Way...

Riders of the wheel. Racers, Roadies, Mountain bikers, Touring cyclists, Commuters, and others. Diamond frames, recumbents, trikes, and more. Sharing a web of connections often misunderstood or unappreciated by those who don't ride. Herewith, my attempt to share some of the more rational thoughts that flit around inside my head while bicycling, knocking back a brew or three, or just thinking about life. Reviews of bicycles, gear, touring, and more, plus some unsolicited posts about people, politics, and philosophy. Other things, too. Me: retired, gave up my TV in 1988, avid cyclist, several cross country tours completed with more to come. Your thoughts?

Warmer weather and WIND...

After all these years in New Mexico, you'd think that I would have become acclimated to the WIND in New Mexico in the Spring.  Not true.  This winter has been particularly long.  Even today, when I was riding in the mountains, the air had a chill to it.  Amazing, if you ask me.

Need to take both my bikes in to have them checked out....the Vitus is making a clicking noise that is coming from my cleats, my pedals or my bottom bracket.  My Cannondale is making noise from my headset.  Tried tightening the headset but the noise persists.  At first, I thought it was my bottom bracket or pedals, but realized it was my headset.

So, tomorrow, my Cannondale goes back to Gila Hike & Bike to see what's ailing the bike.  I'll ride the Vitus.  On Monday, when Bill, the mechanic at Gila Hike & Bike, who put in the bottom bracket is back at work, I'll bring in the Vitus.  Glad to have the time before I head out to get the bike checked out thoroughly.

I'm buying a new Deore XT rear dérailleur for the Cannondale and a new chain...I'll have Dave at the Community Bike Works help me put them on my Cannondale.  Rear dérailleurs confuse the hell out of me.  Dave said he'd show me how to do it and how to adjust the dérailleur.  The actual  work of putting the dérailleur on is not complicated...the adjustment of it, however, is complicated...to  me.

I've done some good riding this week, so far.  Next week, I will  do 50 miles for 5 days in a row.  Slowly, I'll increase my distance until I'm close to doing 100 miles daily....Hopefully is the operative word here.

Now, a little Rod Stewart...First Cut is the Deepest....does it rock'n'roll get any better than this?  I don't think so.  Enjoy...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lZYAaQoks8&feature=related

Ok, one more...Roy Orbison and K.D. Lang...what a combo...Crying.  A true rocker from the '50's and a fab voice from Canada, eh? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-EiKPrAOHA&feature=related
